As strange as it may seem, it is only a recent societal development that has the average citizen dishing out some amount of concern for the well-being of the environment. Whether it was the media-storm of eco-friendly messages, gas prices sky-rocketing, or Obama’s new ‘green’ stimulus money, the American population as a whole can now be considered a tad-bit worried about our planet. Prior to this ‘revelation’, conservation and sustainable living were considered elitist left wing movements designed to take our eyes off of more important topics of conversation – like WMDs.

As we all know by now since the media will not make us forget it: We are in a worldwide recession. We actually are in a Triple E crisis involving Energy; Economic and Environmental components. As a matter of fact as we get out of this recession we will dig even deeper into the Energy and Environmental crisis.

With projections of the creation of 5 million new green jobs, there is a striking leadership gap in the Green Jobs market. Growing numbers of people are reinventing their careers in this new market, so one has to ask, “Who’s going to lead?” Are our executives, consultants, and entrepreneurs prepared with the right tools, training, and skills to successfully manage and lead green business? How prepared are these leaders to achieve BOTH profitability and sustainability?

Green careers are on the rise in popularity now. How can I go about getting a green career is the big question for a lot of individuals that are out of work right now. Thanks to the new scheme by the US government to push the employment market to grow and grow green. The demand for green jobs and green careers will be on the rise for the next few years as the worldwide economies make a conscience shift towards clean green technology and business practices.

Many of us look forward to the day when the “utility” company is a wind-powered farm somewhere on a sunny hilltop, rather than a few smoke spewing coal plants in the middle of America. While that day is actually getting closer and closer, the need for a new workforce is also becoming imperative.

“Solar living”, “green” houses, “smart” appliances, “going green” – these aren’t just “the day’s” catchwords; these are all phrases used to describe a way of life.  In the past decade or so however, they’ve also come to describe a way of working.
